5 or 6 weeks later, The Marshall Saga.
Mar. 14th, 2009 @ 05:36 am
Well it finally happened, Guitar Smiths Called me last night to let my know that my Marshall JCM-800/2205 is repaired and ready for pick up. after only 6 or so weeks of waiting. So I'll be taking off at the buttcrack of dawn to drive the 100 or so miles to go pick it up.
I put the amp in the shop on my Birthday (1-25-09) as a B-Day gift to myself. The amp had not been working for almost 10 years,
But thats mostly because I didn't have a place I could play it anyways. Apartments & Marshall Half Stacks do not mix.
So I never had much need to have it repaired right away. So since I've been out here in the boonies for a while, I figured I could
finally use it the way it's ment to be used. "Profusely".
While the Marshall was non operational, I purchased 2 other amplifiers. A nice Epiphone Twin (25watt) and a Peavey Bandit (25watt)
and I have used those quite a bit. there is one Bad thing about owning a really Nice Marshall Amp. You become quite spoiled by having
all of the dynamics that Marshall Amps are so famous for. No Solid state Amp I have ever used even comes close to the Crisp Cunch
that a Marshall has naturally (without any effects or stomp box's). No (Solid State) Amp I have ever tried makes the hair on the back of your neck stand up and Wiggle, Quite like it does with a Marshall Tube Amp.
So I take off for my "road trip" in just about an hour, and I'm kinda excited.
Oh and the Cost of the repair.. $260.00 Which is more than I paid for either newer Amp, and a LOT less than the cost of a replacement.
I'll gladly pay the ransom for it!
Great to see you up and about!

Thats cool! I need to get my speakers taking in and tuned and worked on some time but just dont know a good place to go.

These are 1978 Audiophonics and the speakers are in great shape. just there is a cap. noise and jsut want the drivers replaced.

it all depends on who makes them. I have changed out some Peavey Speakers (80 Oz. Magnet) and when I blow them, I just do a full replacement of the speaker for the short term, THEN when I have more time to burn, you can sometimes send in the orignal basket assemblies, and have them "re-coned" at a cheaper price. or even sometimes, A trade in arrangement/Discount/credit ect.
it's tough to find guys who do speakers usualy.. they are often hidden
in the "Music" catagory of yellow pages, under Musical Instrument repair "Authorized Service Blah Blah Blah". It usualy NEVER mentions that they do speakers too.
Last Ditch Chance:
When you cannot find ANYBODY who works on Music Gear.. go to a Music shop and ask.. they or someone there can usualy spout a name and phone number, if not two.
Then you can be like me.. cuz thats what I had to do out here in Arkansas. the first place gave me a name and number who, a.)No one ever answered it, b.)the voicemail system was full, and lastly c.)after 15 attempts to contact them, the number was disconnected. SO I asked around a few more places, and got the same name & number.. So I looked them up on the web, got their address.. and decided to pay them a visit. ( I really wanted this Amp repaired ) So I found the street, found all the cross streets, but never found the address. So I gave up on these guys and took a chance in the (200) Mile Range of finding Someone who Worked On Marshall Amps.
Found one 150 Miles away in a town called "Harrison".
It just so happens my job takes me to harrison occasionally, so I decided to stop in the next time I went threw.. Sure enough one week later I was there at ther music store, and they said, Yes we definately have a guy who Works on Marshall Amps, he lives in the next city east.. in "Jasper".
So I left my Amp in their hands, and they agreed to call me once the repair was complete.
thats where this whole saga began.. lol
See what kind of Trouble 1 little question can get you into?

Hey I know you! How was the hibernation?
|Date:||March 15th, 2009 11:03 am (UTC)|| |
Sleeping was good, I was never much of a Winter Bear.
But Spring is Starting to Emerge, and I'm looking forward to sunshine again. The Ice Storm was a Pain in the Caboose.. 8 days of living like the "Flintstones" where the ONLY source of power was Fire.
But being the Clever sort that I am, I used DC Power Inverters, and ran a Cellular Connected laptop & a Boom Box and Cellphone off one of the vehicals so I would at least have communications.
All that aside, I'm still doing Okay, dispite the current economic times. I accepted a "Pay Reduction" of 2.5% so I could stay employed.
which doesn't affect me all that much. it's less than 20.oo per pay peroid.
Still a Bachelor Bear, not having found any compatable species out here in Arkansas. (not a lot of furries here) and lots of Too young guys who think that every guy should look like a photo model, and have a 9"+ penis. or that you should have no morals, and be willing to jump into bed (sight unseen). Not My style.
So Heck it's all status Quo out here.

yeah me.. I still exsist here, dispite everyone else migrating ..
I feel a bit like Sid from Ice Age.. "Everyone else Migrated.. and they left me here.....again."
*Laughs* You realize I posted that 2 years ago, right? :)
But seriously, miss ya, and I hope you are doing well for yourself. I'm up in KCMO these days, but you'll be interested to know your name still comes up on occasion amongst the Californians. I was visiting San Fran Nov, and when I'd mention Arkansas, someone would sometimes chime in "Ahh, that's where BigPaws moved to!"
You're not forgotten, Bear! :)

Well it's good that SOMEONE remembers me..
it seems I'm forgotten in Arkansas though.
Once I git a real job, it seemed to ring in the demise of my social life here.
I have tried posting to Narfa sites, but no one replies..
it's like I don't exist here anymore.
everyone I knew moved away..
With the exception Of Ken Knapp. (chuckle) Oh and Justin Doiel. (who is still experimenting in x-gender stuff)
those are the only two people I know here now.
So Yeah I am Feeling Furry Island syndrome again.
Dude, tell Justin hey for me! I need to keep up with him more, really. How's his transition coming along?
As for NARFA, you should see if you're still on the NARFA mailing list. They still have parties, though a bit less frequently and low-key then they used to.

New Contact Info for Justin: email@example.com (applies to google+ as well)
I have tried to contact the Coon/rat he added me as a contact, but not a chitter aside from that.
and that was just a few days ago. So, I donno maybe they don't need anymore friends?
I totally didn't expect to run into you again soon!
I talk highly of you, brag even, to my friends. :)
You were one of the most awesome friends I met in AR, despite your immigrate nature! :)

No Magic Required
Oh I'm not hard to find these days. I grew some roots in NW Arkansas,
working as a mobile field engineer for Hewlett Packard. Lots of windshield time out in the countryside. and work from home.. not a bad gig if ya can get one.
So yeah, I'm out in the country.. but still on the planet.

Yeah yeah, So I'm from someplace else.. that cannot be claimed anymore, I've been in Arkansas over a Decade now.
So Now I'm a local too.. Fat lot of good that does me, considering everyone Migrated away. or like the movie " Escape from New York" "Snake Pliskin?!? I thought you were dead!".
I'm not dead. I don't even feel Ill.
